January 2026 in Music

I didn’t think I was going to do any more of these, but I like the new Apple Music 3 x 3 x 3 format and I actually have something to talk about this month, so here we are.

The top 3s this month are all dominated by Youth Code and King Yosemite this month, and that’s because I went to see them both live, at the same gig in Tufnell Park. As usual, seeing bands live made me listen to a lot of their music, including A Skeleton Key in the Doors of Depression (2021), a joint album they released. Quite heavy electronic industrial music, they’re both very noisy and right up my street.

In the number 3 spot, we have the very different Bunny X, who I would describe as female lead synth pop. I remember listening to a load of their stuff whilst I was on a train in January. And I was on a couple of 6 hour train journeys.

Paradise Now (1997) by Die Krupps is one of my favourite albums that really got me into industrial music and for the longest time it hasn’t been available to stream. Well now it is, and I’ve been really enjoying listening to it again. I genuinely missed it and not being able to listen to it was one of my few regrets of selling all of my CDs and going 100% streaming. The other main regret was Rob Zombie’s Halloween Hootenanny not being available to stream anywhere. I still have the CD for that, but nothing to play it on. Maybe one day it will also appear on a streaming service.

There you go, a nice short and sweet round up.
